RM of East St. Paul one of five Canadian municipalities invited to launch Earth Day Tree Planting Relay with video message from Mayor Hart

Posted: April 22, 2021

The RM of East St. Paul was one of five Canadian municipalities that participated in the launch of Earth Day Canada’s Tree Planting Relay on April 22.

Mayor Shelley Hart virtually joined with leaders from the City of Mississauga, Ont., Ville de Brossard, Que., Ville de Varennes, Que, and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to demonstrate their dedication to addressing climate change and their commitment to sustainability.

Each of the leaders committed to planting at least 50 trees as part of the Tree Planting Relay 2021, which began last year on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

"I am very proud of the efforts undertaken by our staff and Council to sharpen our focus on our most important environmental assets,” said Mayor Hart.

"Water quality, the health and abundance of trees and natural vegetation are all areas we have committed to improving with financial commitments already approved over the next four years. We want to promote climate resiliency, lead by example, and continually improve our community.”

Each month on the 22nd, until Earth Day 2022, more communities across the country will join the relay and make their pledge to plant at least 50 trees.
