Made of the right material

The Material Girls meet at the 55+ Activity Centre to work on projects, share
ideas and socialize.  Maybe you want to join them?

There's a group of ladies in our midst who demonstrated earlier this winter that membership in their club can shield you from winter's harshest weather - and that's just one of the reasons you should join the Material Girls of East St. Paul.

The ladies of the quilting club clad themselves in their creations and posed for a photo in front of the 55+ Activity Centre with the December chill all around them.  Member Leone Newton said it was "wonderful fun" and it gave them "a chance to admire one another's quilts and display them in a non-traditional way".

The Material Girls meet for quilting every Wednesday between 10 am and 4 pm as well as every first, third and fifth Monday between 10 am and 4 pm.

They work on individual projects as well as some group ones, including the East St. Paul Centennial Quilt, 30-plus lap covers for the Santa for Seniors Program at Middlechurch Home and they also participate in challenges and quilt shows, of which they've hosted three.

They share ideas and techniques and most important of all, they enjoy fellowship and socializing.

The group was founded in 1999 and is welcoming new members of all skill levels.

If you're interested in joining, please contact Leone Newton and (204) 757-7772 or Fran Howard at (204) 224-3430.
