Looking Back on 2017

We often don't realize how much we have accomplished unless we purposefully stop and reflect.  So that's what I've done and want to share with you; East St. Paul's top 10 of 2017, in no particular order.
  1. The installation of the LED path lighting along Hoddinott Road.

  2. $319,000 Federal grant award for Centennial Plaza project ($62,500 previously received in grants and donations for a total of $381,500).

  3. Recipients of an Emergency Preparedness Award that recognizes communities with programs that exceed standards set out by the Manitoba Emergency Measures Act.

  4. Construction of the Bottomley Creek permanent dike in the Highland Park community, funded by a $2 million provincial grant.

  5. Farmers Market dedication markers installed and dedicated to the property's previous owners and long time market gardeners, the Kruszelnicki family.

  6. Construction and occupancy of ESP's first multi family building, Silver Ridge condominiums.  There are eight units in this two-storey building on Birds Hill Road and Agar Avenue.

  7. Communities in Bloom - this was our first year participating in CiB and ESP came away with an impressive 4 of 5 blooms and was the only RM to receive the Heritage Canada 150 Special Edition Award.  Participating in CiB had the RM upping its game in many of our public spaces.

  8. We applied for and received $415,800 in grants for road work, a sewer feasibility study, emergency power at the arena/banquet hall, Dutch elm disease management and tree planting.

  9. Construction of Centennial Plaza began in October, in the parking lot adjacent to the Municipal office building, and will be complete in 2018.

  10. Christmas lights on each one of the 48 light poles along the Hoddinott Road path.  This has been affectionately nicknamed "Candy Cane Lane."
All of this was made possible by the efforts of our Council, staff and members of the community.  We look forward to the opportunities that a new year brings and wish each one of you good health, happiness and prosperity.
