Date of Election

The next municipal election will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.



Qualification of VOTERS


Resident Voters
  • Canadian Citizen
  • at least 18 years of age on Election Day; and
  • a resident of the local authority for at least six months on Election Day
 
Non-resident Voters 
  • Canadian Citizen
  • at least 18 years of age on Election Day; and
  • a registered land owner in the municipality for at least six months on Election Day
 
A maximum of two non-resident voters per property are permitted to vote in a municipal election.  In order to be included on the voters' list, each voter must obtain written consent from the majority of the registered landowners and file with the SEO. 
 
 

Qualification of CANDIDATES
 
Who May Run:
  • a Canadian Citizen
  • at least 18 years of age on Election Day
  • a resident of Manitoba
  • a voter in the municipality in which you are seeking office.  (To qualify as a voter you must be a resident or property owner in the municipality before April 24, 2018.)
 

Who May NOT Run:
  • an employee of the municipality unless they have been granted a leave of absence
  • a councillor or candidate running for office in another municipality 
  • a candidate running for school trustee
  • a member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, Senate, or House of Commons in Canada
  • a provincial judge or justice of the peace
  • a judge of the Court of Queen's Bench of the Court of Appeal
 

Registration Period 

The nomination period is September 12, 2018 to September 18, 2018.  All nominations must be supported by at least 25 voters of the ward or not less than 1% of the voters of the ward, whichever is less, for Councillor and by at least 25 voters of the municipality for Head of Council.  Eligible names must appear on the voters list. 
 
It is important to note that if you are running for ward councillor, the 25 names must be residents or landowners of the ward you are running in and must appear on the voters list.
 


Nomination Period

Campaign Period
 
The Campaign Period for Mayor is May 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019. 

The Campaign Period for Councillor is June 30, 2018 to March 31, 2019.
